The original Ghost Stories anime flopped in Japan, and when its studio, Pierrot, licensed the anime to ADV to dub, they gave the studio free rein to change whatever they wanted minus character names and general plot in the hopes it would sell. Jan 25, · The ADR script for Ghost Stories is written by its ADR Director, Steven Foster, its translator, Lucan Duran, and all of the dub actors cast in the role (which included Greg Ayres, Monica Rial, Chris Patton, among many others). The actors added their own suggestions to what their characters would say or what running gags would be recited throughout the series. Reply

ADV decided to make a comedic dub to replace the original content, making this hilarity without taking away from the main story. It was officially approved by the Japanese owners, Aniplex. Reply

When aired on Canadian cable channel, YTV, a slightly different earlier "rough-cut" version of the English dub aired instead of the theatrical version. This version features some different dialogue such as in the scene where Lady Eboshi first sees San, she calls her "Wolf beast" instead of "Princess Mononoke". Reply
